Volunteer Events: Oyster Reef Builds

Event Details
It is time to get your boots on the ground. This is hands-on marsh restoration at its most impactful. Join us to move heavy materials like manufactured wire reefs and cement oyster castles directly into the pluff mud. These reefs reduce erosion and provide a habitat for local marine life. Your energy helps create a tangible difference you can see at every low tide.
Our oyster reef builds are proudly held in partnership with the SCDNR’s SCORE (South Carolina Oyster Recycling and Enhancement) program and The Nature Conservancy. These hands-on restoration events currently take place in Beaufort, SC, with each build typically lasting between 3 to 3.5 hours. Specific location details and directions will be sent to you via email after you complete your registration for a specific date.
Please wear/bring:
- Reusable water bottle
- Clothes that can get dirty
- Mud boots/old sneakers
- Extra sunscreen and bug spray
- Hat/sunglasses
- Change of shoes (for the ride home)
